I'm in DC for the first time in A WHILE, visiting my friend Melissa and attending Circle DC β a historical game convention hosted by Kevin Bertram (Fort Circle Games). I'm having a blast connecting with friends, game designers I admire, and playing a bunch of games!! I'm still in awe that I met Volko Ruhnke in person for the first time yesterday...what an amazing guy and prolific game designer! Plus, I randomly discovered my good friend Ben (Game Brain Podcast) happened to be in DC this weekend too, so we've had some quality gaming time together as well.

TrickTakuary
Last month some of my favorite content creators and good friends joined me to talk about our love of trick-taking games. We're a silly bunch and planning to do more livestreams like this in the future.

Ankh
**WARNING** This is a slight teaser.... April's episode of Cardboard Creations features a game designer who's favorite Eric Lang game is ANKH. It made me think about when I was a slightly younger whipper snapper and had the pleasure of chatting with Eric Lang about Ankh.

Bjork & Beans
Occasionally I get invited to collaborate with other content creators, and last year I guested on an Amusing Meeples episode, which is a pretty unique board game podcast where they pick a random topic and a random board game mechanism and try to come up with the best board game design idea. ...and of course, I'll jump at any opportunity to sneak BjΓΆrk into a board game discussion.

Heard Off Mic π€
While I was editing episode #64 of the BGG Podcast with Jenna from The Board Game Garden, I was in awe by the random synergies we kept stumbling upon β I mentioned Finding Calm and Jenna mentioned her copy was delivering that same day (!!). Jenna happened to bring up the game River Valley Glassworks and that game has reminded me of Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas ever since I heard about it and saw the cover art...and while we were recording, I happened to be wearing my Riverbottom Nightmare Band t-shirt. Then after we recorded the episode, we were catching up on discord and realized we were both watching the same anime (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End)...and were around the same episode. Be sure to check out that episode if you're interested in learning about "cozy" board games.

Black Rose Wars: Rebirth
I can't seem to get enough of BRW: Rebirth! It's a competitive fantasy game of deck-building, strategy, and combat. You can summon so many different types of evocations (minions) and come up with so many different cool strategies. I love all of the different schools of magic, the awesome action/spell-programming, and the diplomacy aspect of it. Now that I have just about all of the expansions, it has been awesome exploring new mages and avatars, and learning more about this awesome spell-slinging game.

Track of the Month π§
Medicine
First of all...apologies if you choose to listen to this song and it gets stuck in your head for a few days...I'm so (not) sorry!
When it comes to rock music, I'm a sucker for good+ drumming, good+ guitars, and good+ vocal melodies. I can't recall how The Pale White "popcorn kerneled" into my brain, but when I heard them, I kept listening. ...and then I kept listening. Their guitars make me want to pick up my telecaster and learn every song, and their drums do the same. Kinda grunge/90s, kinda moody, kinda hella hooky...and I'm not someone who uses "hella"lightly.
Rivals of Rock Status Check πΈ
We are ramping up art and development in preparation for crowdfunding on Kickstarter later this summer. I'm looking forward to getting together with the Academy Games team IRL next month at The Gathering of Friends, so I'm sure I'll have more updates coming next month.
I'm looking forward to some fun trips and game conventions in May. I'm also on a mission to shrink my board game collection...so if you or anyone you know is looking for some cool games, please let me know. I love being a "board game sommelier"!
