Last year I missed The Gathering of Friends โ a private gaming event in Niagara Falls. ...but not this year! Even though the U.S. side of Niagara Falls often feels like a desolate zombie town, it's always a wonderful time connecting with awesome people and playing games I've been wanting to try for a while. Also, I've had some of my best "aha!" moments playtesting my board game at The GoF. I'm not gonna lie though, I've been going through mini-painting withdrawal since I've been away. Yes. Painting minis is my latest rabbit hole.

Crafting the Cosmos
This month I've been busy working on "In Focus" videos, which are game overview videos sponsored by publishers. It's always nice to make content for gorgeous games, so I had fun with this one.

Great Western Trail: El Paso
Great Western Trail has been one of my favorite board games since it melted my brain when I first got into the hobby in 2018. It was awesome to get to produce a video for this new compact, streamlined version of it.

BGG Podcast #66: Awesome Board Games for 6-Players
It was totally an accident that Jamie (Foster the Meeple) and I ended up talking about 6-player games on episode 66 of the BGG podcast, but it was great to discuss a variety of games that play great with 6.

BGG Podcast #67: Game Market West + Indie Games Appreciation
I really enjoyed chatting with Johnny Chin. Anyone who makes a game about playing tag and a trick-taking game where gophers play golf is cool with me. ...and I love that events like Game Market West exist to help showcase indie game designers and their games.

Five Games For Doomsday
I love collaborating with other content creators in the board game world. Recording with Ben was such a delight, although how can anyone possibly only pack 5 games for doomsday?!!

Leaving Earth
I've been wanting to play Leaving Earth for A WHILE. I finally played it thanks to my friend Joshua Acosta for teaching and coordinating our game. I built a bunch of rockets...some of them blew up...but eventually I successfully surveyed Mars. This space exploration beauty is complex and fascinating to the point where I knew my goals, but couldn't exactly wrap my head around how to achieve them. We didn't have time to play a full game, but I haven't stopped thinking about it. I guess it's like when you only hear part of a song and then it gets stuck in your head. Can't wait to solo this puppy!

Track of the Month ๐ง
The Face of the Earth
I recently took a walk down memory lane making a playlist of my favorite songs from a variety of rock bands. The Dismemberment Plan fell onto my radar years ago when I was in an indie rock phase. Their sound is unique and it's been nice re-listening to their albums.
Rivals of Rock Status Check ๐ธ
Things are moving right along with Rivals of Rock! It's officially Kickstarter planning time. I can't wait to lock down the art and graphic design so I can put some makeup on my prototype. I'm excited and nervous, but mostly excited to push my first board game to the finish line.
Short east coast trips can be rough for a west coast night owl parrot like me. Niagara, it's been real, but I can't wait to get back to LA to unwind and sleep!
